Give them something that they're not accustomed to. Also, try hit them 3x a week eg mon wed fri. 4 sets standing 3 sets seated.

However, ease your way into them for running. Switching too fast from cushioned shoe to basically barefoot will activate different muscles in your feet and it can be harmful if you don't take it one step at a time. You can bang out a set or 12 or 15 on the calf machine in like 20/30 seconds, maybe even less. If you are just bouncing your legs up and down your calves are hardly going to get a good stimulus or even a good contraction.
