Starting a 5x5 stronglifts skel1977 5 4 yearsskel1977 (109): I know deloading means reducing volume by 40% or just taking a week off to let your body catch up with rest. One time I saw a guy benching 300 lbs and he struggled for 5 reps on his first set,He askes me to spot him on his second set so I spotted him 2 min after and he lifted that bitch 9 times no problem So being spotted is a HUGE mind booster!! =)

benching and no spot Ramses 13 5 yearschriselkins (1597): Your shoulders are weak. Work on overhead press and Arnold press to fix your anterior deltoid problem. Also, I can almost gaurantee that If the first rep is so much harder than the other reps that you are cheating yourself and not going down quite far enough on every rep after the first.
I don't trust my squat rack anymore BaiTu 18 5 yearsjonrivs49 (3001): Worrying to much will actually makes you weak. Even if you can lift that heavy ass weight to 10 reps. you might stop in the middle and will not finish the set due to the things you think might happen.
Do you need a spotter AsherD 9 5 yearsAsherD (1): thank you all of you for the feedback
An unusual spot and a great max BaiTu 1 5 yearsBaiTu (3096): Here's a story about today's workout. I had a simple plan - max out in the bench and the deadlift. (I live in a small-to-medium-sized town in China.) I did 100 kilos (about 220 pounds) for 3 reps in the bench press and then was ready to max out. I put the 5 kilo plates on both ends and I asked one of the trainers at the gym to give me a spot. He walked over and stood in front of me and held out one hand and grabbed the bar in the...

Smith machine bench press vs. bench press DinFer22 13 5 yearsmisstown (1): they both work the chest so use both to keep mixing it up.
Failure BaiTu 6 5 yearsBaiTu (3096): But, there was absolutely no one in the gym. No way I could have hit anybody. Definitely good advice from Determined1.

Spotters skullay 17 5 yearshaole (2028): I usually only go to failure on the last set...I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere a while back. I try to use good form through the first sets and if its easy to get the last reps I go for more weight rather than more reps.

lack of a spotter Kyle0910 12 5 yearsLittleDragon (486): Techniques like super sets, drop sets and rest/pause are other ways to get around forced reps. However, they're not as effective as forced reps but can be very satisfying. Depends what you're looking for at the gym :)
asking for spots rowie 24 5 yearsseansm10 (906): fucking hate it when you ask for a spot and they say sure bro then theyre like using all their fucking force to pull the weight up for every single rep meanwhile sayin all u bro all u bro sick set that was all u bro didnt even touch the bar. youre right, you fucking upright rowed it for me. i try to make a few friends in the gym with sensible people for like each wave of people that go so i always know at least one person in the gym that i can...
