Warming up max12480 8 1 yearjcrew7_z (10): I usually look up videos on youtube with multiple stretches and pick the ones that hit the muscles best. I think it's an individual thing.
Stretching cold muscles or warm up TimmothyGen 5 1 yearTimmothyGen (1780): Thank you guys. I'll stretch and work on flexibility after the activity when the muscles are all warm.
Is this normal? Myofascial release. Rawsteel 9 2 yearsFiremanSi (42145): @Rawsteel Increasing ur internal or external rotation is not something u can change with a few stertches and trigger point releases. It's like strength u can't just get drastically stronger in a week these things take ALOT of time. So keep doing what ur doing, the fact u've had some success already is a credit to ur effort so far. It is most like not just that.. u seem to have well developed pecs.. tight pecs can lead to internal rotation of...
Sacroiliac joint pain! SOLARSUPLEX 1 2 yearsSOLARSUPLEX (8275): Waddup guys. Just sharing what i have come up with in my quick reading of pain relief of the SI joint. I was trying to PR on deadlifts (failed 385lb) a few days ago and ever since i have had a strange pain in my tailbone area. Did some googling and came up with the SI joint. http://erikdalton.com/images/sisprainspasm_Fig1.jpg More or less the pain is more of an extreme tightness just below my lower back. After watching countless...

Warm up using 'explosive' exercises? qtdreams92 22 2 yearsBucky (3859): @WinnersNeverQuit or I like meadows approach to a warm up. pick an exercise and do it low weight and high volume for a good pump and then move on to your lifts for the day.
When trying to diagnose a 'tight' spot? SOLARSUPLEX 3 2 yearsSOLARSUPLEX (8275): @qtdreams92 have not made said peanut. I do have two lax balls though... Usually i would just wait a few days but this is really something that is kicking my ass. Granted this is day 1. I thought in the morning i had just slept weird.
Very tight biceps femoris question ehukai 3 2 yearsehukai (115): I appreciate the advice. For the past few weeks I've been doing self myofascial release on my hamstring and it has helped and also reduced tension in my lower back. I've been hitting a 1:1 ratio of quad to hamstring training but should probably throw a little more volume for my hamstrings as they are underdeveloped compared to my quads. The only issue is my entire body is so dam tight my stretching/foam rolling routine is taking more and more...
Shoulder Injury Jezza_91 4 3 yearsr1c0 (55): I just had the exact pain exactly a month ago the Sunday before labor day ,I started a thread looking for help describing my symptoms and I got no insight, every one thought it was a rotator tear. it's not I just have an impinged shoulder .I was doing OH press also on my first rep ,felt a crunch like if you snapped those little glow sticks to activate them Went to a sports medicine Dr. He did not think it was a rotator tear.called up my...

shoulder mobility help golagola 7 3 yearsFiremanSi (42145): I done both this stretch and the DB/Kettlebell stretch that kelly does thats similar to this. Well it has the same outcome. When i do it i do it prior to benching. U should feel a SLIGHT pec stretch if their very tight, and u should feel ur shoulder sliding back into the glenohumeral joint slightly. I think it's a good stretch for people with bad posture also.

Tight hamstrings run in the family??? notredame46 9 3 yearseknight (56416): 80-90 degrees is normal. Tight would be less than 80 degrees. We use static stretching on patients regularly, so I'm not sure why it would be not advised. -3X

Mobility cassious 4 3 yearsDanimal_88 (9757): @cassious Just make sure you really analyze what you need to perform in the gym. It is very easy to take it overboard with mobility work and end up doing a lot of unneccesary work. Things I look to work on for my main lifts: Bench: Thoraic Extension, Shoulder IR/ER, Pectoral tightness Squat: Thoraic Extension, Hip ER, Hamsrtring tightness, and ankle dorsiflextion Deadlift: Thoraic Extension, Elbow Extension, Hamstring Tightness
Some lower body questions Hamer93 4 3 yearsHamer93 (9553): Cheers man will try that bed stretch. I do foam rolling but I just needed a way to stretch the muscle and I did wonder if the shin pains was splints. It's almost like lower leg hypersensitivity??

Mobility work. jonrivs49 12 3 yearscardinal (6175): I do 10 minutes mobility before every lower body day and try to add in 5 minutes for my upper body day and push + pull days although I'll be honest I'm not always consistent. I'm also trying to do 15 minutes of yoga in the evening to help aid my sleep. Also to help reduce morning stiffness. I tend to default to messed up sleep positions, for example curled up in a ball or sleeping on one leg which makes me wake up tight in my lower back and...
Hip flexor stretch - something important mikew 7 3 yearsdatabas1c (2188): This happens with almost all stretches; it's really easy to cheat them to not really get anything out of them. I see it all the time in hamstring and quad stretches.

Stretching to relieve pain Jsn3004 1 4 yearsJsn3004 (2623): Before I started working out seriously I had some lower back problems from sports and having pretty tight hamstrings. It seems that it is coming back to haunt me now whenever I workout legs and squat. My knees always seem to be going over my toes and it seems I am losing flexibility. Do any of you guys stretch for long periods of time?

GREAT Lower Body Mobility Drill !! (Vid) FiremanSi 10 4 yearsOptimusPrime (1257): Great vid. I just love how stretching techniques from the mid 1900's has evolved to include the use of bands and is now marketed as revolutionary. Despite my cynicism, extremely valuable :)
Favorite mobility to do before workouts? ripeanus 3 4 yearsDanimal_88 (9757): depends on the day. For my squats i will roll out quick then work on hip external rotation, then i will laterall distract my hips to clear my impingment issues, work through some banded hamstring/glute openers, then smash and stretch the calves. Then i get into some warmups and voodoo floss leg swings
Exercises before an exercise MCarey 8 4 yearsFiremanSi (42145): I'm the same.. leg extenions before squats is brilliant, always feel it warms up the quads and knees.

They see me rollin' sriram 1 4 yearssriram (2050): Hey, Anyone else in love with foam rolling? Couldn't find a thread about this topic, so I decided to start one. To those that have tried foam rolling, what's the difference between the basic foam rollers and the more expensive kind in terms of actual physical impact? And to those who haven't tried foam rolling, here are some videos that might help; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJLxruO3su0 ...
not feeling the stretch?? Dave21 14 4 yearsMillennium1 (586): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpzRX3slWjE It's all in the hips going back. The further back you push your hips/butt the more you feel it.

warming up BaiTu 12 5 yearsDragonian (4951): Always warmed up on the specific area im going to train for example i wouldnt do cardio as a warm up if im going to do a shoulder workout, i usually pick up 2kg dumbells or so and do this twice: 10 reps lateral raises 10 reps shoulder press 10 reps arm circles without a break wait a minute and repeat. After that if i was starting on military press i would do 20 reps with the bar and then 20 reps with 10kg a side then begin.
